Kanha Tiger Reserve, also known as Kanha Kisli National Park, is one of the tiger reserves of India and the largest national park of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It covers an area of 940 km2 (360 sq mi) in the two districts Mandla and Balaghat. The park hosts Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, barasingha and dhole.
Best time to visit Kanha National Park
Kanha is generally visited between October and June, with core zones closed through the monsoon. February to April tends to offer the best balance of comfortable temperatures and visibility, while the hotter months from April to June concentrate wildlife around water and often improve sighting chances.
What makes Kanha different
Two things set Kanha apart. Its towering sal forests open into wide grassland clearings known locally as maidans, and those long sightlines are something denser reserves cannot offer. It is also the last stronghold of the hard ground barasingha, the swamp deer brought back from near extinction here, which makes the sighting list genuinely different from any other central Indian park.
